Historic Preservation Law Thompkins Church


It is hereby declared as a matter of public policy that the protection,enhancement and perpetuation of landmarks and historic districts arenecessary to promote the economic, cultural, educational, and generalwelfare of the public. Inasmuch as the identity of a people is foundedon its past and inasmuch as Putnam Valley has many significanthistoric, architectural, and cultural resources, which constitutes itsheritage, this act is intended to:
  1. protect and enhance the landmarks and historic districts,which represent distinctive elements of Putnam Valley’s historic,architectural, and cultural heritage;
  2. foster civic pride in the accomplishment of the past;
  3. protect and enhance Putnam Valley’s attractiveness tovisitors and the support and stimulus to the economy thereby provided,and
  4. ensure the harmonious, orderly, and efficient growth anddevelopment of the Village/Town/City.
